Track my progress

ZK-VRV has Spidertracks installed which allows real time monitoring of my flights.  Every two minutes a position report is sent by the unit on the dash of ZK-VRV.

As part of the sponsorship package generously provided by Spidertracks for our "Great Aussie Flying Adventure" they have setup a web page on the Spidertracks site that can be used to track Dave & Don flying in ZK-WLK, Bill in ZK-WLL and myself in ZK-VRV together.  You can find it here: https://go.spidertracks.com/public/acrosstheditch

At the beginning of each flight I put Spidertracks into watch mode. While in watch mode if the Spidertracks servers don't receive a regular satellite update, the New Zealand Rescue Coordination Centre is automatically notified. That is in addition to the aircraft Emergency Locator Beacon and my Personal Locator Beacon being set off and the normal search & rescue processes kicking off if my flight plan goes overdue.

  1. Hey Guys enjoying your blogs. Did you guys need HF or did you use a sat phone?
I did a similar trip in 2002 this was a short trip from Archerfield, Longreach, Birdsville, Alice Springs returning to Archerfield. The 2004 trip was considerably longer. NZ to Port Macquarie. No hassles crossing the Tasman either way. 2004 trip went down to Wedderburn from Port Macquarie. Then on to Bathurst, Bourke Reola station, white cliffs, Arkaroola, Leigh Creek, coober pedy, Forrest, Kalgoorlie, Jandakot, Geraldton, Monkey Mia, Broome, Karratha, Port hedland, Derby, Kununurra, Halls creek, Bungle bungles, Halls Creek, Across the tanamai to Yuendumu and Alice Springs, Birdsville, Longreach, Moree, Port Macquarie and home.
Hope to do it again in the not too distant future.
Enjoy the rest of your trip, safe travels.

    1. Murray, it's clear you enjoy flying in the outback as much as I. I've been to many of the places you listed in your 2004 trip on one of the 5 trips I've done in Australia. However, before now I've flown Australian registered C172 aircraft. This is the first time I've toured Australia in my own aircraft and I'm luvin' it even more.
